The Swedish ready-to-assemble furniture giant will open a design studio at Masonville Place mall in early November after a similar launch in Oshawa last month. Others are planned for Brampton – opening October 14 – and St. Catharines.

Ikea Canada is promoting the studios as a “new concept” that allows customers to design and order complex furniture systems “by scheduling one-on-one planning sessions with a trained IKEA design expert or through a free-to-use planning station. service in a dedicated studio. space out. “

Last year, Ikea canceled plans for a big box store in London, south of Highway 401 and Wellington Road near Costco.

“Our ambition is to become more accessible to the residents of Ontario by bringing Ikea closer to them and offering them new, convenient services that meet the changing demands of our lives at home,” said the Toronto Area Manager. , Niclas Karlsson-Järnkrok.

An Ikea design studio – only open for about 12 to 18 months – is a short-term way to connect customers with Ikea experts locally, the company said. Significantly smaller than traditional Ikea stores, they won’t offer IKEA products or food to take out right away.

Purchases from Ikea Design Studios can be delivered directly to customers’ homes or picked up at Ikea collection points, including 1040 Wharncliffe Rd. S. in London.
