Fashion design students show off their skills on April 25

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Fashion students from Southern Illinois University to present the 2019 Fashion Design and Merchandising Program Student showcase and fashion show in the ballrooms of the Student Center on April 25.

The event is free and open to the public.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a student presentation of exhibits in the JW Corker Lounge. The exhibits include examples of coursework and student projects from various classes. The exhibits can be viewed until 7 p.m., when the student showcases begin.

Showcase presents the creations of four fashion design students

The featured event is the presentation of the final original clothing collections from four senior fashion designers. Students are responsible for every detail of their collections – from concept to fashion illustration, fabric sourcing, pattern creation and construction, pattern and music selection, and accessory coordination. .

Approximately 150 students from across campus are involved in this event, including cosmetology students from John A. Logan College, under the direction of Nancy Jo Crowell, who help complete the final catwalk looks.

The senior designers presented and the names of their collections, listed by hometown are:

ILLINOIS

  • Chicago: Terrian Brownlow, “Somewhere Above the Rainbow”.
  • Princeton: Brooklyn Kate Lehn, “Lanikai”.

CHINA

  • Tianjin: Jingyu Niu, “Childhood Amnesia”.

SAUDI ARABIA

  • Medina: Rawan Almghamsi, “Fly Home”.

Fashion shows start at 7 p.m.

At 7:00 pm, the runway fashion shoot begins in Ballroom D with freshman fashion design students showing off their “Dressed for Effect” spring dresses.

The participating students are:

  • Ella Boren.

  • Ingrid Hansen.
  • Leslee Lofton.
  • Khiyah Ransom.
  • Jingbo Wang.

The experimental design pieces “Mardi Gras” followed by a collection “Bridal Re-Imagined” will be presented by:

  • Rawan Almghamsi.
  • Terrian Brownlow.
  • Brooklyn Kate Lehn.
  • Jingyu Niu.

The fourth collection, “Time After Time”, are garments inspired by historic fashion from the 1940s to the 1980s by:

  • Jade Cochran.
  • Paige Gower.
  • Tracy Gholson.
  • Sina maiberger
  • Rana Schenke.
